"Chemical Engineering students need to be more resilient in facing the challenges in the era of Industrial Revolution 4.0" the alumni advised

6 September 2018; the School of Chemical Engineering welcomes 84 new intake of students registering with the programme as part of their 1-week orientation period at the Universiti Sains Malaysia’s Engineering Campus in Nibong Tebal. The Dean, Professor Azlina Harun@Kamaruddin together with the academic, administration and technical staff congratulates the students upon accepting the offer from the School.

A rather balanced portion of 41 and 43 students of males and females respectively in the current intake of 2018/2019 are among the candidates whom applied to the programme. They are mainly from the matriculation centres throughout the country, STPM holders, USM’s Pre-university students and a few from the A-Level/International Baccalaureate programme. The orientation week, which began from the first day the students arrived in the campus on 2nd September and concluded with the programme registration at each School today.

With the first week of being enthusiast university students, they were then introduced to the three USM’s chemical engineering alumni in an hour forum session. The three successful alumni include; Dr. Khozema Ahmad Ali (Chem.Eng. 2010), who is currently a lecturer at the School of Industrial Technology under the Environmental Technology Programme, Mrs. Lily Lidyani Ramli (Chem.Eng. 2010), a Senior Project Engineer/ Manager with B-Braun Industries Sdn. Bhd., one of the biggest medical devices manufacturers in the world and last but not least, from SilTerra Malaysia Sdn. Bhd., Mr. Mohd Farid Fahmi Sukri (Chem.Eng. 2015).

The alumni were showered with various questions from the students and among others, on the career prospects after graduation, study techniques, the benefits of further study to higher levels and how to adapt with the programme, which was not among their first few choices. Tips, recommendations and opinions were clearly conveyed by the three alumni and it is hoped that the students will use them as guidance in surviving their four-year undergraduate study at the School of Chemical Engineering.
