The School of Chemical Engineering, Universiti Sains Malaysia celebrates the recent achievement of Mr. Zulkarnain Mohamed Idris, a doctoral student who has been awarded the Robert S. McNamara Fellowship by the World Bank. Zulkarnain is currently working on a project entitled 'Synthesis of Molecularly Imprinted Polymer Ordered Mesoporous Composite for Biomolecules Recovery' under the supervision of Dr. Azam Taufik Mohd Din. He will be leaving for a 9-month research attachment beginning July 2017 until March 2018 in Lund University, Sweden working in the laboratory of Professor Emeritus Dr. Bo Mattiasson. Bo is a renowned scientist in the field of biotechnology and had published many high impact publications as well as edited a number of research books in the area. He will supervise Zulkarnain during the 9-month stay in Lund.

8 March 2017, The School of Chemical Engineering, Universiti Sains Malaysia has once again soared from its 46th ranking in 2016 to number 38 in the world this year. This marked the second time the School received the same ranking by the prestigious Quacquarelli Symonds World University Rankings. The first was in 2013.

1 February 2017. Two excellence students from the School of Chemical Engineering managed to secure a scholarship for each of them under the programme offered by the Macro Dimension Concrete Sdn. Bhd. (MDC). Rajaviknesswaran Singaravelan and Kalaivani Rangasamy, both from the second year’s Chemical Engineering, Bachelor Degree attended the ceremony, which was held at the MDC headquarters in Sungai Petani, Kedah. The other three out of five students were each from the School of Civil Engineering, School of Mechanical Engineering and School of Housing, Building and Planning, (HBP).

19 January 2017, The School of Chemical Engineering received two representatives from Osaka University for an initial discussion to establish a dual-degree programme at the doctoral degree level, (PhD.).
