Sarjana Sains (Kejuruteraan Kimia)

Di peringkat pengajian siswazah, salah satu program yang ditawarkan oleh Pusat Pengajian Kejuruteraan Kimia USM ialah program Sarjana Sains (Kejuruteraan Kimia). Pelajar yang berdaftar di bawah program ini akan menjalankan penyelidikan kendiri dan melengkapkan tesis atau melakukan projek terhadap suatu bidang kajian yang khusus. Melalui program ini, pelajar dijangka memperoleh pengetahuan termaju berkaitan bidang terpilih di peringkat asas dan gunaan. Graduan program Sarjana Sains (Kejuruteraan Kimia) berpeluang menceburi pelbagai kerjaya di sektor penyelidikan, pembangunan, reka bentuk, pengeluaran, kawalan kualiti dan pengurusan. Selain itu, graduan turut berpeluang meneruskan pengajian di peringkat Doktor Falsafah dalam bidang kejuruteraan kimia atau bidang-bidang berkaitan.

Sarjana Sains (Kejuruteraan Kimia) @ USM

Pelajar yang memasuki program Sarjana Sains (Kejuruteraan Kimia) di USM akan dibimbing oleh seorang penyelia utama dan dibantu oleh penyelia bersama yang masing-masing merupakan pakar dalam bidang terpilih mereka. Pelbagai bidang penyelidikan ditawarkan seperti proses pemisahan membrane, kawalan proses termaju, nanozarah, penjerapan, bahan-bahan karbon, biopenukaran, teknologi enzim dan biobahan api. Program Sarjana Sains boleh dilengkapkan secara sepenuh masa atau separuh masa. Secara umumnya, pengajian di peringkat sarjana mernagkumi tinjauan pustaka, pembentangan Cadangan projek, perancangan dan pelaksanaan kerja-kerja eksperimen, pemodelan dan pensimulasian, penyediaan dan penghantaran artikel penyelidikan serta penghantaran tesis akhir untuk peperiksaan lisan.

RESEARCH AREAS

The School has state-of-the-art facilities to support research works in the following areas:

  • Nanotechnology: Carbon Nanotube, Nanocarbon Composite, Activated Carbon, Carbon Molecular Sieve, Magnetic Nanoparticle
  • Catalysis and Chemical Reaction Engineering: Chemical Reaction Engineering, Zeolite and Environmental Catalysis, Nanoporous Materials, Membrane Reactors, Fuel Technology, Renewable Energy, Electrochemical Reaction etc.
  • Biochemical/Bioprocessing: Enzyme Technology (Biocatalyst), Fermentation Technology and Modeling, algae, Tissue Culture, Biotransformation, Biological Products Recovery, Bioreactor Design and Analysis and Biofuel Production, Phytochemistry, Biosensor, Tissue Engineering, Regenerative Medicine
  • Separation Processes: Membrane Technology, Adsorption, Filtration, Ion-exchange, Diffusion and Mass Transfer, Solvent Extraction (including molten salts and supercritical fluids), Electrophoresis, Electrodialysis, Reactive Distillation, Pervaporation, Zeolite Membrane for Gas Separation, Electrocoagulation
  • Treatment of Solid, Gas, Wastewater and Toxic Materials: Membrane Technology, Solidification/stabilization, Biosorption, Adsorption, Combustion, Pyrolysis, Nutrient Removal and Recovery, Bioremediation, NOx Removal from diesel exhaust, VOC Removal using Catalytic Combustion and SOx removal from Flue Gas using adsorbent from waste materials
  • Advanced Process Control: Process Modelling, Simulation and Optimization, Process Intensification, Fuzzy Logic and Neural Networks
  • Plant Safety and Hazard Analysis: Process Safety and Integration, Computational Fluid Dynamics, Gas sensor
  • Petroleum and Gas Processing: Natural gas utilization in the production of chemicals, Ethylene production from Methane, Hydro-cracking of residual oil, Gas to Liquid Technology (GTL), Gas Purification
  • Waste Material Utilization to Value Added Products: Composting, Renewable Energy, Green Technology and Organic Acid Production
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

Applicants should possess the following:

MSc

I. Bachelor degree

A) CGPA of at least 2.75/4.00; or

B) CGPA of 2.50 - 2.74/4.00 with; or
Research experience – 1 year; or
Professional experience in related field- 1 year; or
One(1) academic publication in related field; or
Grade B for major/ elective courses; or
Grade B+ for final year project.

C) CGPA of 2.00 - 2.49/4.00 (Honours degree) with; or
Research experience - 5 years; or
Professional experience in related field - 5 years, AND
One (1) academic publications in related field; or
Grade B for major/elective courses; or
Grade B+ for final year project.

LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS

(Applicable for International Applicants Only)

  • A minimum score of 35 in Internet-based TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language); or
  • A minimum of Band 5 in IELTS (International English Language Testing System); or
  • A minimum score of 154 in Cambridge English Advance (CAE); or
  • A minimum score of 154 in Cambridge Proficiency Advance (CPE); or
  • A minimum score of 36 in Pearson Test of English (PTE); or
  • A minimum of Band 2 in MUET (Malaysian University English Test)

An exemption can be given if:

  • English is the candidate's mother tongue or National Language; or
  • The candidate graduated from an Institution of Higher Learning in which the medium of instruction is English
