The School of Chemical Engineering has set a benchmark both locally and internationally to the other PTJ’s said USM’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Datuk Dr. Asma Ismail

9th March 2018; The School of Chemical Engineering welcomes Professor Datuk Dr. Asma Ismail as part of her scheduled visit to USM’s schools and centres of excellence. Also present were Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Industry & Community Network), Professor Ir. Dr. Abdul Rahman Mohamed, Professor Dr. Phua Kia Kien, Director of the Institutional Development Division, (BPI) and Professor Dr. Lee Keat Teong, Director of Research Management and Creativity Office, (RCMO). Earlier, the Vice-Chancellor visited the School of Material and Mineral Resources Engineering within the Engineering Campus.

The 9 o’clock meeting attended by all the academic staff started with a presentation by the Dean of the school, Professor Dr. Azlina Harun@Kamaruddin showcasing the success of the school in terms of awards received and publications throughout 2017. She then continued with the agenda and strategies in improving the school’s recent world ranking position. In addition, the strengths and weaknesses of the school were also tabled such that an apparent comparison with that of other top universities could be seen and analysed.

The Vice-Chancellor’s mantra on co-learning with other world renowned institutions was reiterated in order to position the school together with the best universities and at the same time improve the visibility. The new strategy within the Malaysian Higher Education Blueprint on the 3R (Respected, Referred and Relevant) was also mapped by comparing with all the achievements of the school. This would be the next step towards spearheading the new agenda in 2018 and putting back USM’s School of Chemical Engineering on the world map.

At the end of her visit, Datuk Asma congratulates all the academic staff for the effort and hard work for continuously helping the university towards becoming among the world’s best.
