School of Chemical Engineering Hosts for SWA Accreditation Postgraduate Programme Compliance Evaluation

11 June 2025 - The School of Chemical Engineering, Universiti Sains Malaysia, welcomed a delegation from the SWA Accreditation Center on behalf of Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA) on Wednesday, 11 June 2025 for a Compliance Evaluation (CE) session focused on its postgraduate programmes, including Master’s and Doctoral studies.

The evaluation team was led by Professor Ts. Dr. Zainura Zainon Noor from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, UTM, accompanied by Associate Professor Dr. Husnul Azan Tajarudin from the School of Industrial Technology, USM, and Associate Professor Ir. Dr. Haslinda Zabiri from Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS, UTP. The panels were tasked with assessing the School’s compliance with the standards and regulations outlined by MQA for postgraduate academic programmes.

Evaluation Day Activities

The visit commenced at 9:00 a.m. with a welcoming meeting involving the Dean’s Exco, where both parties discussed the School's strategic direction and commitment to continuous improvement in postgraduate education.

Throughout the day, the SWA assessors engaged in a comprehensive review process. This included visits to key research laboratories, where they observed the implementation of safety procedures and infrastructure compliance. The panel noted the School’s ongoing efforts to maintain high standards in research safety and facilities management.

To ensure broad engagement, the SWA team also conducted separate dialogue sessions with academic, administrative, and technical staff. These meetings served to gauge the overall awareness and implementation of MQA standards across different operational levels within the School.

The evaluation session concluded at 5:00 p.m., marking the end of a productive day dedicated to academic quality assurance. The visit reflects USM’s ongoing commitment to maintaining the highest standards in postgraduate education and aligning its programmes with national quality benchmarks.

The School of Chemical Engineering extends its appreciation to the SWA panels for their insights and feedback, which will be instrumental in further strengthening the postgraduate offerings and ensuring the continued excellence of USM’s academic ecosystem.
