Rainwater Harvesting System @ PPKK
As part of our commitment to sustainability and efficient water resource management, the School of Chemical Engineering has successfully implemented an on-site Rainwater Harvesting System, directly supporting the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal 6 (SDG 6).
This project ingeniously repurposes an old 1,500-liter tank retrieved from one of our laboratories. Located near Anjung Ilmu, this system is designed to collect and store rainwater for non-potable applications such as landscape irrigation, general cleaning, and other utility needs.
With an anticipated daily usage of 50-100 litres, it is estimated to offset approximately 1,050-2000 litres of treated municipal water per month during standard working days. Beyond its practical water-saving benefits, this project serves as a living example for the students and community.
It provides valuable exposure to the importance of water conservation and demonstrates the practical application of green technology and equipment reuse within our campus environment. Ultimately, this initiative aligns seamlessly with the university's broader efforts to strengthen its sustainable development agenda and cultivate mindful resource management practices.
