109 Students, Including a Pair of Identical Twins, Successfully Registered at the School of Chemical Engineering
2 October 2025 – The School of Chemical Engineering, Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) welcomed a fresh intake of students for the 2025/2026 academic session, with a total of 109 new candidates, including two international students, officially registering at the School today.

The nationwide university intake began on Sunday, 28 September 2025, with students travelling across the country to their respective campuses. For the School of Chemical Engineering, the departmental academic registration was held on today, at Lecture Hall 6, Lecture Hall Complex, Engineering Campus, where the students were formally greeted in an introductory session led by the Dean, Professor Ir. Dr. Zainal Ahmad.
Among this year’s cohort is a pair of identical twin sisters, Ms. Nur Raida Mohamad Rozi and Ms. Nur Raina Mohamad Rozi, both aged 20. The twins, originally from Butterworth, Penang, completed their primary and secondary schooling at Sekolah Kebangsaan Telok Ayer Tawar and Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Telok Ayer Tawar before pursuing their pre-university studies at the Penang Matriculation Centre.
Remarkably, both sisters achieved the same number of A’s in their Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examinations, though in slightly different subjects. When applying for university admission, both placed Chemical Engineering at USM as their second choice, and both successfully secured placement in the same programme.
Their story adds a unique touch to this year’s intake, symbolising the shared aspirations and academic determination of USM’s new generation of chemical engineers.
With this registration, the School of Chemical Engineering continues its tradition of attracting bright and diverse talents, preparing them to contribute to innovation, research, and industry at both the national and global levels.
