Malaysian Rubber Council Explores Talent Development with School of Chemical Engineering

9 April 2026 - The School of Chemical Engineering, Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) recently hosted a strategic engagement with the Malaysian Rubber Council (MRC) to discuss talent development and expanded scholarship opportunities for the university’s undergraduate students.

The Malaysian Rubber Council was represented by Ms. P. Uthaya Malar, Director (Industry & Talent Development), and Mr. Engku Mohd Hamdi Engku Aziz, Deputy Director of Industry Relations & Public Affairs (Marketing & Development). They were received by the School's management to deliberate on future-proofing the next generation of engineers and professionals.

In a move toward modern recruitment values, the discussion highlighted that the MRC scholarship program aims to identify well-rounded candidates rather than focusing solely on those with the highest academic results. While a solid academic foundation remains a prerequisite, the Council placed a heavy emphasis on candidates possessing strong soft skills, leadership qualities, and the agility to adapt to a professional industrial environment.

Furthermore, it was clarified that these opportunities are not limited to the School of Chemical Engineering. The MRC is looking to support talented students from across USM, recognizing that a diverse array of skills is essential to fuel innovation in the rubber industry.

This collaboration highlights a shared commitment between USM and MRC to nurture versatile graduates who are not only technically competent but also ready to lead in the global marketplace. The School of Chemical Engineering remains dedicated to bridging the gap between academia and industry through such impactful partnerships.
