USM Chemical Engineering Students Excel at An Engineering Challenge 2026

The School of Chemical Engineering is pleased to announce the success of our students at An Engineering Challenge 2026, held from 16 February to 16 March 2026. Organized by the Chemical Engineering Undergraduate Club, Universiti Malaya, the competition concluded with a closing ceremony on 18 April 2026.

Guided by the theme "Green Horizons: Advancing Chemical Engineering Innovation," our students demonstrated exceptional technical proficiency and a commitment to sustainable solutions.

Technical Essay Writing Competition: 1st Place

Saravuth Maneerat A/L I Chuan, a first-year student, secured the top prize with his essay, "Electromicrobial CO₂ Conversion: Engineering Bioelectrochemical Systems for Sustainable Carbon-to-Chemical Manufacturing.

Reflecting on his win, Saravuth shared:

"As a first-year student still learning the basics of chemical engineering, this experience helped me better connect what I learn in class with real-world applications. Working on the essay also  gave me a chance to improve my writing and understand more about the impact of chemical engineering. This achievement motivates me to keep learning and growing in this field."

Technical Infographic Competition: 1st Runner-Up

Ong Ee Bin was awarded 1st Runner-Up for the infographic titled "From Farm Waste to Functional Product: Turning Empty Fruit Bunch into Fuel Gas." His success was supported by the guidance of Professor Ts. Dr. Chm. Ahmad Zuhairi Abdullah and Associate Professor Dr. Masrina Mohd Nadzir.
