USMCEC 2026 Sparks Innovation Towards a Circular Economy

Organised as a premier platform for Chemical Engineering students, the competition provided participants with the opportunity to demonstrate technical proficiency, creative problem-solving, and innovative thinking in addressing contemporary industrial and sustainability challenges.
The opening ceremony was officiated by the Deputy Dean (Academic and International) of the School of Chemical Engineering, Associate Professor Dr. Azam Taufiq Mohd Din. Also in attendance were distinguished guests including Dr. Fadzil Noor Gonawan, Advisor of USMCEC, Associate Professor Dr. Masrina Mohd Nadzir, Advisor of the Chemical Engineering Student Society (CheSS), and Mr. Yap Jia An, Vice President of CheSS.
A Platform for Technical Excellence and Creativity
Continuing its tradition of excellence, USMCEC2026 featured five key competitions designed to challenge participants across multiple dimensions of engineering competency:

- Chemical Engineering Challenge
These events collectively assessed participants’ ability to integrate theoretical knowledge with practical application, while fostering communication skills, creativity, and analytical thinking.
Celebrating Outstanding Achievements
The closing and prize-giving ceremony, led by Dr. Fadzil Noor Gonawan and Associate Professor Dr. Masrina Mohd Nadzir, recognised outstanding participants across all categories.

Representing USM on the National Stage
The organising committee extended its heartfelt congratulations to all winners and participants for their dedication and achievements. The top performers will go on to represent Universiti Sains Malaysia at the National Chemical Engineering Symposium (NACES), where they will compete at a higher level and showcase USM’s engineering excellence.
USMCEC2026 not only highlighted the ingenuity and capability of its students but also reinforced the School of Chemical Engineering’s commitment to nurturing future-ready engineers equipped to contribute towards a sustainable and circular economy.
