USM Chemical Engineering Inspires Future Innovators at Secondary School STEM Enculturation 2026

The programme, held from 9.00 am to 2.00 pm at the school’s Al-Ghazali Hall, attracted an impressive participation of approximately 685 students, creating a vibrant platform for students to explore opportunities in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).
Promoting STEM Awareness Among School Students
The programme was organised with the primary objectives of:
- Introducing secondary school students to STEM-related disciplines
- Increasing students’ interest in science and engineering fields
- Exposing students to various engineering and technical career pathways available for their future development
Through interactive exhibitions and engagement activities, students were given the opportunity to gain firsthand exposure to higher education pathways and emerging technologies.

Strong Participation from USM and Other Institutions
The School of Chemical Engineering was among several schools and entities from USM participating in the programme. Other participating schools and centres from USM included:

The event also featured participation from various educational institutions and agencies, including:

Interactive Exposure to Engineering and Technology

At the School of Chemical Engineering booth, students were introduced to the fundamentals of chemical engineering and its applications in daily life and industry. The interactive approach helped students better understand how engineering contributes to areas such as sustainability, manufacturing, energy, and environmental protection.
The event also enabled students to interact directly with university representatives, allowing them to ask questions regarding academic programmes, university life, and future career opportunities in STEM-related fields.
Strengthening University–School Engagement
The programme reflects the School of Chemical Engineering’s continued efforts in supporting STEM outreach initiatives and strengthening engagement with schools and the surrounding community. Such initiatives are essential in nurturing curiosity, innovation, and early interest in science and engineering among school students.
Through active participation in outreach programmes like this, the School hopes to inspire more young talents to pursue STEM education and eventually contribute towards the nation’s scientific and technological advancement.
